Important Nevada Traffic Security Actions by Kelly K Huang Esq

Long considered one of the most dangerous states to operate a motor vehicle in, the state of Nevada has rolled out several traffic safety initiatives over the past year. Recently rated as a "red light" state in the Roadmap of State Highway Safety Laws by buyer safety community Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety, Nevada made a "yellow light" ranking for 2017 with room for continued improvement in road safety standards. While Nevada has earned a "yellow light" position in years past, study criteria were adjusted, causing the rating to play at the red in 2016. Researchers at the Vulnerable Road Users Project at the University of Nevada Las Vegas indicated that the state's improvement toward better protection ratings made a substantial difference in 2017. Among one of the initiatives that had a positive impact was the passage of key interlock legislation, which will go into effect on October 1, 2018.

The new law requires anyone interrupted with a blood alcohol focus of 0.08 or above in the state to use an interlock device for 90 days after the arrest. If convicted, those prevented may be shopped to extend the usage of ignition interlock systems for six months or more. This new regulation was focused on reducing drunk driving fatalities in the state, which are just below national averages and considered over 1000 deaths over a ten-year period.

Laws focused on teenager driver safety were also enacted. Diverted driver regulations, specifically those that focus on banning the use of mobile connection devices for texting while driving, have also improved the state's status in traffic safety and security. "With tourism and miles driven at all-time highs in Nevada, it is time for the state to proceed safety improvements," says Mr. Huang.
